How to Use Life’s Sh!t to Find Your Extraordinary Strength

A new acquaintance recently asked me “How could you possibly help someone who is battling with their weight if you’ve never been overweight yourself?

I may not have battled with my weight, but I have been dealt a set of life circumstances that COULD HAVE lead me to numb my pain with food, alcohol, self pity, drugs etc. But, I chose another route.

You see, I grew up in a very violent alcoholic home, and among many other events leading to heartbreak and trauma, I also experienced 3 potentially career ending injuries (both athletic and professional.)

THIS is where my StrongHealthyWoman‬ Law #5 comes from: “CHOOSE to use your less than perfect life circumstances to find your extraordinary strengths.”

No matter what shit hand YOU have been dealt, you still get to choose what you will do with that damage and pain. Give up, check out, numb out, or eat your feelings? OR will you use the ‘shit’ as FUEL to uncover your ‪ ‎greatness‬?

So no, I’ve never been overweight. But I do know what it’s like to have a daily (sometimes minute to minute) struggle to make the right choices that will keep moving me forward. It’s through my own fight to survive‬ that I learn how to motivate clients to constantly go up against and win at their own fight.

Don’t get me wrong. The emotional and physical work is painfully hard. But the alternative, in my eyes, is death.
