How Meditation Helps You Lose Weight

FITNESS & MEDITATION & YO’ LIFE:

Every new workout, every new day, every new HOUR is a chance for you to practice being who you want to be, or who you want to become. Meditation Practice, as it’s called, is the one addition to my own training regimen that has made the greatest impact in the last year.

It’s called “practice” because it’s about training the mind to come back to the present moment over and over and over and over again. It’s about allowing yourself to pay attention to your life as it’s happening in real time.  At the end of EVERY StrongHealthyWoman Boot Camp session in NYC & Long Island, we meditate for 4 minutes (sometimes it feels like a lifetime!)

 

 

Meditation, like fitness AND really anything else you are trying to achieve, is NOT about PERFECTION. (Yea, I’m talking to YOU, the one who wears her perfectionism like a badge of honor!)

You don’t just “get it right” in one shot and then NEVER have to struggle again. It’s actually all about the humbling act of becoming better and more efficient at returning back to the right path after you stray for a a minute, an hour, or even a few months.

I hope this analogy makes sense to you guys. So, instead of beating yourself up for mistakes, missteps or because you fall short of where you think you “should be”… try changing your mindset to one of compassion and understanding that this (RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW)  is EXACTLY where you are supposed to be.

Experiencing ups and downs are THE BEST way to learn, to grow, and to become efficient at anything. If you let them, the “failures” will teach you invaluable lessons of bravery, perseverance and how to be a life warrior.

(SIDE NOTE: I personally go to the Shambala Meditation Center in Chelsea, NYC. I also meditate on my floor for 5 minutes before the start of my work day. No incense, no fancy chanting…just good old fashioned sitting still for 5 god damn minutes. GAME CHANGER.)
