Drop and give you how many? NO THANKS

Liz C, a 5 month-in-a-row Camper gives you a bird’s eye view of her wellness experience with us:

“Get Up, Get Moving…Get Strong, Get Healthy

It’s 4:45am. I am lying in my bed warm and comfortable. It’s pitch black outside and my alarm is telling me to get up and get moving.  The next thing I know, I am lying in the grass sweaty and thoroughly awake under a beautiful newly lit sky along the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan.  The hour that just passed in between from my warm bed to the cool grass was empowering, exhausting, challenging and nothing less than life affirming.

It was just a few weeks ago when I started searching.  I wanted what we all want: to tone up, slim down, look lean and feel strong.  The gym…again? Too boring. A personal trainer? Too expensive!  I was searching for something motivating that met a few times a week without costing a fortune. So hesitantly, I googled “boot camp, Manhattan.”  I had heard the stories about ex-army men pacing around in boots shouting to drop and give them twenty. Ugh. No thanks.  Immediately, something caught my eye. “Strong Healthy Woman Boot Camp”.  That sounds more like it. So, with a little apprehension, I just went for it and signed up.  Turns out it was the best decision I have made for myself in a really long time.

Laura Miranda, founder of “Strong Healthy Woman”, an innovative, hip entrepreneur is on to something.  As a physical therapist and a personal trainer she knows the body inside and out and uses her vast knowledge to create a challenging, safe, fun and dynamic experience outside, music blasting, all while the sun rises over Lower Manhattan. Let’s face it, we could all use a little tough love when it comes to exercise but none of that drop and give me twenty stuff. Laura’s excitement and energy are truly infectious.  With so much enthusiasm, she politely kicks your behind into shape and thus rightfully earns the title, “the Body Transformation Expert.”

After a day, I was sold and after a week, I was hooked.  It has been four weeks now, and I feel great. I just signed up for another round. How could I not? There is something so inspiring about testing the physical limits of your body; to move in a way that you did so freely as a kid.  There is something so empowering about walking down a dark avenue on my way home from work, feeling confident and strong like I can protect myself. And what girl doesn’t love zipping into her jeans a bit easier?!

If you are not in Manhattan, Laura has her “Boot Camp To Go” as well as iPod workouts offered on her website (www.StrongHealthyWoman.com).

If you are not in a place in your life that you can do vigorous exercise, there are so many things to do that expand your body’s strength and thus having you feel more alive. Breathe deeper with your meditation. Stretch longer in yoga.  Squeeze tighter at Pilates.

We know that exercise does wonders for body but specifically in Chinese Medicine, we know that it “moves Liver qi.”  Stagnant liver qi is what leaves you feeling frustrated, angry, tired, tight, bloated, wound up…the list goes on.  The message of my story here today is not just about boot camp, but simply a reminder use your body everyday in a way that reminds you what a beautiful, capable machine it truly is.  Get out there and move; you will feel, look and be healthier physically, emotionally and spiritually because of it.”
